Biography

Stéphane Nazé is a visual effects supervisor at Framestore Montréal. Born in Belgium, he began his creative journey in art school. From there, his early work in visual arts drew the attention of the French VFX house BUF Compagnie, which hired him as an animator — he worked on the film Batman & Robin (1997) early on. Very early in his career, at just 23, Nazé supervised his first sequences on Fight Club (1999), giving him a taste of being on‑set and collaborating with filmmaker David Fincher. Over the years, he contributed to a diverse slate of films, including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). In 2012, Nazé joined Method Studios as a VFX Supervisor, working on films such as Cloud Atlas (2012), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), Jupiter Ascending (2015), and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). Nazé's path eventually led him to join Framestore in 2014 as part of their film‑division supervision team. His first project there was Pan (2015), marking a return to fantasy and adventure. Subsequently, he worked on several high‑profile and creatively demanding features, including Now You See Me 2 (2016), Darkest Hour (2017), and Downsizing (2017). For Darkest Hour — Nazé led a dedicated VFX team at Framestore's Montréal facility, building historically accurate environments and cinematic effects across 85 shots, including full CG environment recreations, crowd simulation, and period‑accurate details. Later, he contributed to the magic and creature‑driven worlds of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them universe: he supervised the VFX on the original film (2016), and returned for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022), working alongside other supervisors on its extensive creature, environment, and visual‑effects work. In 2023, Nazé oversaw the VFX supervision for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023), as part of Framestore's Montréal studio team. The studio helped create assets such as the cosmic HQ "Knowhere," the character Groot, and other complex visual sequences. Nazé reunited with director James Gunn on the DC film Superman (2025). As VFX Supervisor, he led the creation of two of the film's main assets: the crystalline Fortress of Solitude and the photoreal CG character Krypto the Superdog. The team tackled formidable technical challenges — for instance, rendering Krypto's white fur convincingly against snowy backdrops, and designing the Fortress from thousands of individual crystal assets while managing enormous rendering workloads. On the strength of his work on Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022), Nazé earned a nomination at the 2023 Visual Effects Society Awards for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.
